As an expert in yoga for athletes, I lead workshops nationwide.
Find my current schedule here, and contact me if you’re interested in having me teach at your studio or to your group. In 2008, I taught to full rooms at Yoga Works Downtown in New York City and Circle Yoga in Washington, DC. I loved leading a weekend workshop at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in February 2009 and am looking forward to next year’s visit.

Though I hated the first few yoga classes I attended in 1998—they weren’t lifting weights, they weren’t aerobic exercise, and I didn’t want to admit it, but they were frustratingly hard—while attending prenatal yoga classes, I came to see how yoga enriches other experiences. Taking a class once a week and practicing a little at home as well, I made it through my first marathon without many of the aches and pains that accompany high-mileage running. In 2003, I began teaching while earning my certification.

My yoga teaching style uses both flow and long holds focusing on alignment and mindfulness. The flow generates heat, so that the longer holds can work more deeply. My focus in both yoga and training is
form and breath: finding the most efficient, economical form and taking the fullest breaths available, in order to stay present even in intense situations. You can get a taste of my teaching style through my podcast and DVDs. Read what my students have to say here.

I have taught yoga for athletes for five years, both at the
Carrboro Yoga Company and at the UNC Hospitals Wellness Center, where I lead a popular indoor cycling class as well. My students range from “regular” people to recreational athletes to former Olympians, elite triathletes, and Ironmen. I work with the University of North Carolina football team, teaching them yoga for postgame recovery. (The players’ favorite poses: happy baby and corpse.) I hold national certification as an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher and Star 3–level (top-tier) Spinning instructor, and I have also been trained in mat Pilates. I have been inspired by teachers including Lesa Crocker, Sunny Davis, Sarah Powers, Erich Schiffmann, Shiva Rea, and Baron Baptiste.
