My flexible schedule gives me time to write books, articles, and training plans; to practice yoga and meditation; to teach yoga and cycling; to train for running and triathlon—and, most important, to parent. My wonderful family includes my husband of over a dozen years, Wes, and our two young daughters, Lily and Vivian, all at left. We also have a cat, Quince, and a dog, Manta Ray. Our home is in Chapel Hill, NC, where we enjoy the culture of life in a university town. Wes and I both have two degrees from Carolina, mine an MA and a PhD (I went to Wake Forest University as an undergrad), his a BS and an MPH.

While the majority of my hobbies (yoga, sports) are tied up in my work, I also enjoy eating, especially snacking on good bread—better still, with wine and cheese—and count myself very fortunate to have easy access to
Weaver Street Market’s bakery, and to live near other good sources of crusty bread such as Rue Cler. In my recovery time, I overcompensate for my PhD in literature by watching serial TV dramas, following NFL football (yes, I wept tears of joy when I heard Jerry Richardson had been awarded the Carolina Panthers franchise as an expansion team), and reading mystery novels and non–literary fiction.

If you still want to know more about me, please read
my blog and sign up for my newsletter (there’s a signup form at left). Take it a step further: be my friend and fan on Facebook, and follow me on Twitter. And in case you were wondering, yes, Sage is my real name. My parents, looking for a flower name, found it in the Burpee seed catalog.
