As a coach certified by
USA Triathlon (level 2, or expert),
USA Cycling (level 3, or club), and the
Road Runners Club of America, I have a small—and fast—clientele of competitive age groupers who compete in multisport events including triathlon and duathlon, as well as running and ultrarunning. I like to think of my coaching as boutique: I provide highly personalized service to a select group of discerning customers! I also adore turning new athletes on to endurance sports—in class, in clinics, and at parties—and sometimes have to contain my enthusiasm. My husband has been known to find himself signed up for races he didn’t plan on running.
I have been happy to share my services with
Tri to End Homelessness—in 2007, sisters Rachel Dirito and Robyn Fehrman (right) dedicated their season to raising money for
Genesis Home, a shelter for women and children in Durham, NC. In 2008, Robyn completed her first half-iron race and raised over $7,000. In 2009, my clients’ goal races included the Boston Marathon, the Marine Corps Marathon, the Massanutten 100-mile trail race, and Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island, as well as regional triathlons and running races.
I have just retired after four years of leading
indoor cycling classes using road-riding-specific workouts and endurance-sports training terminology; I am certified as a Star-3 level
Spinning instructor.
I’ve been a runner for more than a dozen years, competing in road and trail races from the 5K to the marathon, and I’ve been a triathlete for five. In 2006, I raced shorter distances in the
North Carolina Triathlon Series, finishing the season in second place in my age group and winning the age group in the series championship race. I wound up with a Mid-Atlantic all-region placing. In 2007, I enjoyed racing in the Endurance Triathlon Series (now the
TSTDS; first-place female, 30–39); at the same time, I worked on distance, including a half-iron-distance race. I ran a PR (3:39) at the
Kiawah Marathon in December.
In 2008, my emphasis was once-in-an-athletic-lifetime races: the
Boston Marathon in April (3:43, re-BQ), and in June, the short-course triathlon world championships in Vancouver. In November, I joined my clients at the
Beach 2 Battleship half-iron race in Wilmington, NC. In 2009, my peak race was
Ironman Coeur d’Alene. I loved touring the five boroughs during the
New York Marathon in November. In 2010, I’ve already
run a 50K; my fall goal is yet to be determined but will include my work with the
Runner’s World Challenge.
I’m lucky to have the support of a few companies that also work in endurance sports and yoga:
Athleta,
PowerBar,
Rudy Project, and
XTERRA Wetsuits. Find more on my association and their products on my
